Mary Jo Tucker
Dumas - Desha County

Mary Jo is a General Educational Development (GED) teacher at the Arkansas Correctional School at Varner prison. She is responsible for all activities related to inmates obtaining their GED.

She holds a B.A. degree in English and Mathematics and an M.A. in English and Education both from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Mary Jo was awarded Teacher of the Year Honors from her school and Woman of the Year from the Dumas Lions Club. She is also a past president of the Dumas Area Arts Council.

Mary Jo believes in the quote from Julia Sugarbaker in TV’s Designing Women that says "I pray that people with good sense will get power and that people with power will get good sense." She believes in using the wisdom of those around us when we know that we don’t know something. Mary Jo has a grown daughter.
