It has been 20 years since I participated in LeadAR and it is
without exception, the single best program I have ever experienced.
I learned so much about the state of Arkansas, made life-long
friends, and had great fun in the process. The seminars and
workshops, the fabulous speakers and dinners, the visits around the
state, and the international travel helped to bond us to each other
and to Arkansas. While my work has taken me away from this great
state, my LeadAR experience has stayed with me, and has helped me in
every aspect of my professional career.

Looking back, I realize that being selected as member of LeadAR
Class 4 was a life-changing moment. LeadAR embodies the principle of
lifelong learning and encourages each participant to stretch as far
as possible to make a positive difference on those around us.
Prior to participating in LeadAR, I wasn’t as aware of issues and
resources that impacted my community and state. Many people work
hard everyday to make a difference; however, their efforts are not
maximized because as individuals, we have limited knowledge of
resources or contacts. With LeadAR’s valuable leadership training
along with the national and international experience, I came away
from the program with a greater understanding of challenges we face:
but more importantly, confidence and resources to overcome those
challenges.
I have been fortunate to serve in various organizations at all
levels; local, state, national and international. Knowledge gained
from participating in LeadAR has allowed me to advise state and
national political leaders as well as assist international business
and governmental leaders. LeadAR should be credited for a large
percentage of personal and professional achievements in my life.
I have often said that one of the biggest mistakes I ever made
was not applying for LeadAR the first time I was encouraged to do
so.
